Fashion Week #1: Minimalist Monday!

Welcome to the Silver Fashionista’s first-ever fashion week! You’re very lucky to be here, folks. Please don’t insult any of the models or interrupt the show. Every day Monday-Sunday I’ll be posting three outfit ideas under a certain theme. Make sure to come back every day!

Today is Minimalist Monday. Minimalist as in simple, neutral and made out of a capsule/classic wardrobe. I decided to only use the clothes from my wardrobe essentials blog post (check it out! *My* Closet Essentials.) I managed to stick within those ten pieces or so, however I did add some bonus jewelry and use whatever shoes I wanted. Accessories are an affordable way to change up a look.

First of all, I have an outfit staring a special guest, an original Silver Fashionista shirt. I sewed this quite a few months ago but have not stopped loving it since! Now, typically I'd pair this with jeans but you'll be seeing some later. Therefore I have leggings, which are actually jeggings (jeans + leggings = jeggings!) For a bit of spunk I stole my mom's black heeled boots. Fortunately she's always a good sport when her shoes go missing for me to take photos. Last but not least, I have white accessories: a scrunchie, a headband and a necklace. Accessories are always a great way to change up your look.

Sewing The Shirt

How-To Sew A Scrunchie

In my wardrobe essentials post I included two dresses, and this is one of them. I don't know what the material is, but it drapes really nicely. I also love the straps and neckline, which you can't see since its covered up with a warm coral sweater. I love it, except when it comes to dresses where it's just a bit too long and bulky. Don't fret, because I have a life-changing trick for you! Gather the back of the sweater in your hands and tie it with an elastic. Now, just flip that up so it's hidden underneath. As long as your sweater is thick enough, this works like a charm to make a cropped sweater. I completed this look with my gray boots.

The Dress

These jeans aren't the ones from the capsule wardrobe, however they look essentially the same so nobody will know. My moto jacket is definitely appearing at Fashion Week a few times (here she is!) along with this cute lace blouse. I adore this girly/lacy edgy/leather combination. This juxtaposition is my style. For shoes, play it safe with a pair of flats. My feet aren't this small (I don't have big feet, btw) as these are my sister's shoes and they're the only light/pastel pair of shoes I could find for this outfit. They look good and that's all that matters on the internet.

Tomorrow is Trendy Tuesday. Don't miss it and I'll see you then!

  1. Which outfit is your favourite? Are these minimalistic enough or are they too over-the-top? First to comment gets a front-row seat to tomorrow's show! Haha

    2. Then just try! My first sewing project was sewing two pieces of felt together and stuffing it to make a pillow. I will say, do not start off with sewing clothes, but if you want to after learning the basics I'd start with DIYing thrifted clothes or making a simple shirt or skirt. Let me know if you want to see some sewing tutorials on my blog! How To Use A Sewing Machine, Sewing 101, etc.

  2. OH thanks for sharing that tip about cropping a long-ish sweater. I have a few that fall into that category so I'll be sure to try this out. Go Pack go!
